The annual AirlineRatings safety rankings have been released, and for the second year in a row, Air New Zealand has been named the world’s safest airline for 2025. This accreditation demonstrates the airline’s persistent dedication to passenger safety and high operating standards.

Air New Zealand won its top spot after a comprehensive evaluation of 385 airlines globally. The airline’s performance was highlighted by its younger fleet, which improves safety performance. According to Sharon Petersen, CEO of AirlineRatings.com, the choice was fiercely fought, with Air New Zealand edging out Australian airline Qantas by only 1.50 points.

AirlineRatings uses a detailed review methodology with nine essential criteria. These factors include significant events within the last two years, fleet age, fleet size, incident rates, deaths, profitability, pilot competence and training, and adherence to international safety certifications such as IOSA and ICAO audits. This careful review guarantees that only the safest airlines are recognized in the rankings.

While Air New Zealand got first position, Qantas came in second, retaining its reputation for safety excellence. Notably, Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airways, and Emirates tied for third place, demonstrating the outstanding safety standards maintained by these big airlines. Virgin Australia and Etihad Airways were also among the top finalists, demonstrating a strong commitment on safety throughout the sector.

For passengers, the announcement of the safest airlines is a valuable resource for making educated trip choices. With Air New Zealand leading the way, passengers can fly with confidence, knowing that safety is the airline’s first concern. This award not only improves the airline’s image, but also acts as a constant reminder of the need of stringent safety standards in aviation.

Air New Zealand’s designation as the world’s safest airline for 2025 demonstrates its commitment to excellence in safety and operational integrity. As the aviation business evolves, safety becomes more important than ever. Air New Zealand maintains its leadership in the skies by continually emphasizing passenger safety, setting a benchmark for others to follow.
